Help Wanted: The Big Spring Senior Center is in immediate need of two (2) volunteer Tuesday Lunch persons from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Call Cathy or Rausa at the Center for information.
We are also in need of contributions of homemade pies and helpers for our Fountain Festival Pie/Ice cream Stand. Call the Senior Center for details.
Exercise Classes Offered
Zumba Gold – every Monday and Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church. The cost is $2.00 a class for those 60+/$5.0 a class for those 50 – 59. No need to sign up; just walk in.
Stretching – We stretch, using a video at the Big Spring Senior Center. It is free for those who are members/$5.00 for non-members or those 50 – 59. Call for information on days/times (usually on Fridays).
T’ai Chi for Arthritis –This new program meets on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church. The cost is a $5 donation per week and is also being supplemented by a grant from the Office of Aging and Community Services.
Yoga –This session is held on Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at Big Spring Presbyterian Church, 25 South Corporation Street, Newville. The cost is $65/member and $55/non-member for a 10-week session which can be pro-rated if you start mid-session. Please contact the Senior Center at 717-776-4478 for more information.
Wednesday, June 13th at 12:00 noon Nutrition Quiz Fun with Barbara Goll from Homeland@ Home. Barbara continues our quarterly nutrition series with some quiz fun. Sign up for our 11:30 a.m. lunch two working days prior or just drop in at noon for the fun.
Thursday, June 14th from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Walking Together – Caregiving for the Memory Loss Community The Big Spring Senior Center in partnership with First United Presbyterian Church and Green Ridge Village continues its forum series at the Church, 111 West Big Spring Avenue with the Alzheimer’s Association – Greater PA Chapter. Their topic will be “Effective Communication Strategies”.
Monday, June 18th at 11:30 a.m. Father’s Day Luncheon with Steve Long, Director of the Doubling Gap Church of God Conference Center. Steve will be here to present his program on the Old Hotel’s history and the Center’s development. Contact the Center no later than Thursday, June 14th to sign up for lunch. Program will begin at 12 noon in the community room of Mountain View Apartments (adjacent to the Senior Center). Walk ins for the program are welcome.
Wednesday, June 27th at 9:30 a.m.“Mind Matters” comes to the Big Spring Senior Center. This program presented by WITF is offering an exciting initiative for the PA Department of Aging, Senior Community Centers and Continuing Care Retirement Communities to offer highly engaging educational programming. The Science of Dreams. Dreaming is one of the most fascinating and mysterious human functions. Have you ever wondered what dreams are and/or how they are formed? Although we all dream on a regular basis, we often wake up barely being able to remember any details. Why is it that we can remember some of our dreams, but not others?
