The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners recently approved a grant in the amount of $9,350 through the Land Partnerships Grant Program. The Newville Borough Council will use this funding to create a children’s play area at the Newville Trailhead Facility located at 23 McFarland Street. The borough has selected playground equipment manufactured by the Playworld Company of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. The equipment is distributed locally by George Ely and Associates of Carlisle. The Borough Council is presently accepting donations from local service clubs and area businesses to help match the grant. For more information please contact Edward M. Sinkovitz, Recreation Committee Chairman at 440-5562.The play area will serve the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail and the thousands of trail enthusiasts who visit the facility each year. More importantly, Borough Council is pleased to announce that the play area will be the first borough playground facility to be constructed in the south ward. The members of Newville Borough Council wish to acknowledge to support of the Cumberland County Board of Commissioners, and the Cumberland County Planning Department who made the funding for this project possible.
