NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2013

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2013

Newville residents had an opportunity to interact with the members of their police department on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 as part of National Night Out, 2013.
Judging by the record crowd, many residents enjoyed the event. The Big Spring Kiwanis and Newville Borough Police Department distributed back to school items to children of the community. By the end of the evening, both organizations reported their supplies were nearly exhausted. Pleasant weather, a live band - “NOIR”, and plenty of free food and refreshments delighted the crowd. A children’s safety smoke house manned by volunteers of the Friendship Hose Company was a big hit, and children reported they enjoyed tours of the Cumberland County Emergency Communications Command Post. The face painting stand and funnel cake wagon enjoyed a steady line of participants throughout the evening. Chief Randy Finkey was joined at the event by Corporal James Swartz, Officer Todd Koser, Officer Charles Pyatt, Officer James Borza, Police Clerk Vickie Negley and Parking Enforcement Officer Donald Kail. Former Newville PD officer Keith Seibert also attended. The Pennsylvania State Police was represented by Trooper Eric Keebaugh, and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department was represented by Deputy Randy Barrick. The Borough of Newville wishes to acknowledge the following organizations who donated food and refreshments for this event: David and Margaret Handshew-M&D Enterprises, Joe and Roxanne Lehman - S & K Auto Spa, Mike Bender - Bender Auto Parts, Newville Lions Club and Saucy’s Ristorante. Special thanks also to Phantom Shadow Entertainment.
