Yard Sale: Don’t forget to come to our yard sale on the porch at the Senior Center on Thursday and Friday, May 11th and 12th from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We always have lots of bargains. We will also be selling hotdogs, root beer floats, and baked goods. All items except the crafts in our craft area and baked goods will be donation only. Crafts and baked goods are for sale as marked. Come out and contribute to your local community senior center.
Thursday, May 11th at 9:00 a.m. “Fun & Fit” Zumba Gold Aerobics: A certified instructor from the YMCA leads this aerobics class designed just for you. The class meets at the First United Presbyterian Church in Newville. A $2.00 donation is requested. This class is open to anyone age 60 or older. Call the Center for more info.
Thursday, May 11th at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Games with Bob Ballard & Bill and Linda Sweigert: Join us for a day of fun while we play a variety of card and board games led by Bob, Bill & Linda! Call the Center for more info.
Thursday, May 11th at 11:30 a.m. Restaurant Outing: We will be leaving the Big Spring Senior Center at 11 a.m. to travel to CJ’s American Pub and Grill, 487 East King Street, Shippensburg for lunch. Call the Senior Center if you want a ride.

Monday, May 15th at 2:00 p.m. Watercolor Painting Class: Are you looking for a new hobby or do you want to improve your painting skills? Come learn painting techniques from professional artist Carolyn Hocker. The cost of a four-week session is $25 and $1 each week to the Senior Center. Please call 776-4478 to register and to get more information.
Tuesday, May 16th at 9:00 a.m. T’ai Chi for Arthritis. This six week session will be held at the First United Presbyterian Church. Cost is $5 donation per class.
Tuesday, May 16th at 1 p.m. Wii Bowling: Join us to try your hand at bowling in front of a TV screen. It’s lots of fun and competitive too. No ball required. Just drop in for a game or two.
Wednesday, May 17th at 1:00 p.m. Bible Study: Every Wednesday in May Pastor John Hess of the Newville Church of the Brethren will be leading our Bible Study. His focus will be on the Book of Jonah.
Thursday, May 18th: Hanover Chip/Pretzel Trip & Dutch Country Restaurant: Plan to leave the Big Spring Senior Center at 9:00 a.m. for FREE tours of UTZ and Snyder’s (including the UTZ Outlet store). Cost of this trip will be $15 for roundtrip travel with lunch on your own at the Dutch Country Restaurant. Sign up and pay no later than Tuesday, May 16th. Note: Must be able to climb steps for these tours.
Friday, May 19th: We welcome all moms, grandmothers and great grandmothers to our annual Mother’s Day Tea beginning at 2:00 p.m. We will be enjoying a social time of light refreshments and a tribute to mothers. Sign up by noon, Thursday, May 18th. Entertainment will be provided by Jean Wert, an accomplished accordion instrumentalist.
Wednesday, May 24th: The Big Spring Senior Center’s Annual Diabetes Forum will be held on May 24th in the picturesque community of Green Ridge Village. Big Spring Senior Center has partnered with Green Ridge Village and Carlisle Reginal Medical Center to bring you a day of speakers, health fair/vendors and wonderful diabetic-friendly food by Chef John. Check-in will begin at 9 a.m.; with a Health Fair by area health professionals, followed by seated exercise, speakers and a free lunch. All will take place in Ridge Hall’s Dining Room. Please call the Big Spring Senior Center at 776-4478 by May 15th to register.
The Big Spring Center is located at 91 Doubling Gap Road, Suite #1, Newville, in the Mountain View Apartment Building. The phone number is 776-4478. Hours are weekdays 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. A hot congregate meal is served at 11:30 a.m. Please call two weekdays ahead to make a meal reservation.
