The Big Spring Kiwanis Club and the Borough of Newville plan to present the 2nd Annual Newville Christmas Parade on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 7PM. The parade will form on Broad Street starting at 6PM. Local churches, civic and non-profit organizations and fire companies have been invited to participate in the event.

The highlight of the evening will be the arrival of Santa Claus who will visit with children at the Fountain. The members of the Big Spring Kiwanis Club plan to prepare 300 Christmas Stockings for distribution to children of the community. Members also hope to distribute free school supplies. Parents may bring their cameras to obtain a picture of their child with Santa.

Several community minded individuals have joined together to construct a stage complete with a Christmas holiday setting for this event. The Kiwanis Club and Borough of Newville wish to recognize Charles Boyles and David Handshew of the Newville Public Works Department, Tom Drost of Jireh Welding, Judy Litski and the Art Club of the Big Spring High School, and Eagle Scout candidate Michael Morrison for their help in constructing the new stage.

Hot coffee, hot chocolate and hot dogs will be provided free of charge.

Members of the planning committee are:

Seated: Kiwanis Club officers Becky Heberlig, Brian Kump and Andrea Crider.
Standing: Robert Gilbert representing the US Marine Corps League, Boyd Weary representing the Big Spring Inter-Church Council, Edward Sinkovitz, Bob Kanc, Chris Ferrands and Nelson Myers. Other members of the committee include Jeffrey Cohick and Fred Potzer.

The Christmas Parade Committee meets on the last Thursday of each month at 6PM. Volunteers are welcome to attend.
