Family, friends, and Boy Scouts of Newville Troop 174 joined Mayor Barrick and members of Borough Council in honoring a true public servant, Newville Scoutmaster Gordon Holl. Officials honored Scoutmaster Holl with a plaque and citation at the Borough Council meeting on July 30, 2013 at 7:00PM. Citing his many contributions to scouting, the Mayor and members of Borough Council praised Mr. Holl for helping eleven Boy Scouts to achieve the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. Scoutmaster Holl assumed leadership of Troop 174 in 2003, and with the help and steadfast support of his fellow scout leaders has increased the compliment of the troop to over thirty members. In addition to recognizing Scoutmaster Holl, the Mayor and Council also paid tribute to the Boy Scouts, past and present, who have donated countless hours in support of many worthy community projects, ranging from their annual cleanups of the Big Spring to support of the local food bank. Those who know Scoutmaster Holl understand that he often avoids the personal spotlight himself, but takes great pride in watching young men advance through the ranks of scouting. Scoutmaster Holl is truly a worthy role model for the members of Troop 174. He is shown in the photo receiving a citation from Council President William Toth.
