Exercise Classes Offered
Zumba Gold – every Monday and Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church.  The cost is $2.00 a class for those 60+/$5.0 a class for those 50 – 59.  No need to sign up; just walk in.
Stretching – We stretch, using a video at the Big Spring Senior Center.  It is free for those who are members/$5.00 for non-members or those 50 – 59.  Call for information on days/times (usually on Fridays).
T’ai Chi for Arthritis –This new program meets on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. at the First United Presbyterian Church.  The cost is a $5 donation per week and is also being supplemented by a grant from the Office of Aging and Community Services.
Yoga –This session is held on Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at Big Spring Presbyterian Church, 25 South Corporation Street, Newville.  The cost is $65/member and $55/non-member for a 10-week session which can be pro-rated if you start mid-session.  Please contact the Senior Center at 717-776-4478 for more information.
Free Income Tax Preparation by AARP Tax Aides:  Once again, AARP volunteers will prepare senior citizens’ income taxes without charge at the Big Spring Senior Center, 91 Doubling Gap Road, Newville, every Friday from February 2nd to April 13th except for April 6th.  Appointments must be made and are held only on Fridays.  The Center is handling the scheduling.  Call 717-776-4478 weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  The volunteers have recently completed training to keep current.  Please note that donations are accepted to cover the cost of utilities, etc.

Thursday, March 8th from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.  Walking Together – Caregiving for the Memory Loss Community The Big Spring Senior Center in partnership with First United Presbyterian Church and Green Ridge Village continues its forum series at the Church, 111 West Big Spring Avenue with James Rasario, Dining Director of Green Ridge Village Retirement Community. His topic will be “Nutrition and Dementia”.

Wednesday, March 14th at 12 noon:  Nutrition Program:  Old World Grains and Seeds

Tuesday, March 27th High School Spring Luncheon:  All area seniors are invited to a luncheon sponsored by the Big Spring High School Student Council, which will take place in the High School Commons Area at 12:45 p.m. (doors will open at 12:30 p.m.).  The menu will consist of BBQ Chicken Breast, Loaded Mashed Potatoes, Crunchy Corn, Mini Carrot Cheesecake, Tea and Coffee. Musical entertainment will be provided.  Please call the Senior Center at 717-776-4478 no later than Thursday, March 8th to sign up.

“MindMatters” comes to the Big Spring Senior Center.  This program presented by WITF is offering an exciting initiative for the PA Department of Aging, Senior Community Centers and Continuing Care Retirement Communities to offer highly engaging educational programming.  On Wednesday, March 28th at 9:30 a.m. – Faith & Freedom in the Civil War.
