The Newville Borough Council recognized the Summer Events and Recreation Staff with Certificates of Appreciation at the Borough Council meeting on August 27, 2019. Recreation Director Jody Hoffman and her Assistant Sandy Brymesser were honored for developing a very successful summer recreation program for the children of Newville. During the Council meeting, several residents offered their appreciation for the new program. Recreation Commission Chairman Scott Penner presented the citations to Mrs. Hoffman and Mrs. Byrmesser. Borough Council announced that the recreation staff will return in 2020 with a new and expanded recreational program.
The Newville Borough Council and Mayor Randy Finkey on August 27, 2019 honored Ryan Pratt, a second-grade student of the Big Spring School District, Mt. Rock Elementary School for his unselfish efforts to raise funds for a Veteran’s service dog. Mayor Randy Finkey issued a proclamation designating Wednesday, August 28, 2019 as “Ryan Pratt Day” in the Borough of Newville. The Mayor’s proclamation can be read by clicking the button below.
The Newville Borough Council and the Newville Borough Water and Sewer Authority have approved the appointment of Lindsay Williamson as the new Borough Secretary-Treasurer for the borough. She will start her new duties immediately. Personnel Committee Chairman Robert Over welcomed Ms. Williamson to the borough staff.
Lindsay has a degree from the University of Connecticut in Political Science and a Paralegal Certification from the University of Connecticut. She has experience in running a non-profit organization, fundraising, and accounting.
The Newville Borough Council will hold its next council meeting at 7PM on August 27, 2019.
During the meeting, Borough Council members will present certificates of appreciation to Summer Recreation and Events Coordinator Jody Hoffman and to her assistant, Sandy Brymesser. Ryan Pratt, Second Grader at Mt. Rock Elementary School will be presented with a Proclamation by Mayor Finkey.

The Newville Borough Council, on July 30, 2019, adopted a resolution approving a new emergency operations plan for the Borough of Newville. The plan is mandated by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. The Plan was transmitted to the Cumberland County Department of Public Safety on August 8, 2019.
The plan will be used to coordinate an emergency response to man-made and natural disasters, civil disturbances and critical weather events. The plan contains detailed summaries of the borough emergency response to weather emergencies such as tornados, hurricanes, and severe winter storms. Provisions within the plan allow for the mayor and council to issue emergency declarations to preserve the health, safety and welfare of the borough.
Robert L. Barrick, Jr. serves as the Borough of Newville local emergency management coordinator.
